Raggiungere il traguardo dei sette anni di attività nel settecentesimo anno dalla morte di Dante, oltre che lusingarci, ci spinge ad azzardare un parallelo tra la sua epoca e la nostra, prendendo in particolar modo in esame i leggendari schieramenti dei Guelfi e Ghibellini.
Senza tuttavia entrare nel merito di istanze e contenuti dei due schieramenti storici, vorremmo caricare con significati nuovi queste due categorie contrapposte.
La nostra idea è che il Potere agisca con gli stessi meccanismi da quando l’uomo ha memoria: ossia creando parole d’ordine inverificabili che col tempo si trasformano in dogmi e non ammettendo alcuna discussione critica, nonché tollerando solo quelle forme ideologiche (anche apparentemente a lui avverse) che riesce a controllare. I partigiani dei vari schieramenti che inevitabilmente vanno formandosi al di sotto del Potere possono nutrire l’illusione di avere margine di decisione e d’azione, ma loro unica funzione è quella di mantenere un equilibrio tale che non alteri lo status quo del Potere di riferimento in quel determinato periodo storico. Ciò accade anche oggi nello stesso, medesimo modo. Il Potere ha bisogno di uomini di fede, il Dubbio è categoricamente escluso.
Detto questo, a nostro avviso il Guelfo moderno è il concentrato di tutti i conformismi che abbiamo visto nel secolo scorso: è lo zelante fascista o comunista dove e quando fascismo o comunismo governino con zelo, è il moderato democristosocialburocratico del periodo postbellico con lavoro e moglie fissa, è sempre qualcosa del genere in versione Tesla 4.0 ma con lavoro e compagn* precari del periodo odierno, che commenta e si esprime contro ingiustizie e sperequazioni globali da un PC chic, le cui componenti sono pagate una miseria a popolazioni esotiche mantenute in miseria proprio per questo… insomma, è l’uomo medio per eccellenza. Il prodotto dei media del Potere. Può credere (perché è uomo di fede, anche se ateo) una cosa oggi e già domani credere l’esatto contrario, basta che lo legga nel giornale (meglio se d’aria anglofona) o sul profilo social della celebrità del momento impegnata a distanza.
Nel suo nome ogni sorta di crimine è stato, è, e sarà compiuto. E lui non ne saprà nulla, come sempre.
Il Ghibellino moderno è l’altro uomo medio per eccellenza, pure lui uomo di fede, solo che crede e si informa con mezzi apparentemente di dissenso al Potere. È il suo utile bastian contrario: il nazionalcristodossosovranburocratico. Ogni mattina si sveglia ed è circondato da spie e sicari papali che gli avvelenano il cibo e gli sputano nell’acqua… Ogni mattina partecipa a riunioni alla carbonara con turbosciamani in stanze buie gentilmente concesse da Zuckerberg o dai tizi di Telegram…Ogni mattina sfoglia i giornali proibiti o le gazzette non ufficiali che gli ricordino di quanto lui e quelli come lui siano nel giusto… ogni mattina si sveglia e crede di dover correre più veloce del papa.
Oggi si gioca la carta dell’eretico... nella speranza di diventare il pontefice, o meglio il patriarca di Mosca, di domani.
E Noi? Λάθε βιώσας… ma non basta.
La consapevolezza dei meccanismi del potere permette di non agitarsi a vuoto.
Nel nostro specifico caso: non vediamo tutta questa differenza tra le mura di cinta di una città e un foglio di carta colorato. Proteggere e controllare, controllare per proteggere, proteggere per controllare... niente di nuovo sotto il sole.
Il Potere non è IL male. Suo scopo è conservarsi, possibilmente accrescere le sue forze. Il Dubbio ci fa accettare la possibilità che, per ottenere questo, al Potere possa essere utile anche la nostra conservazione e l’accrescimento delle nostre forze. Per essere più specifici: il Potere attuale, essendo di tipo consumistico, ha necessità di consumatori… possibilmente vivi, anche se non necessariamente sani (questo va detto).
Per questo motivo da sette anni non riusciamo ad essere né Guelfi convinti né Ghibellini convinti: soprattutto, non riusciamo ad essere convinti. Almeno non acriticamente.

OUR SEVEN YEARS BEYOND GUELPHS AND GHIBELLINES
The fact of reaching the milestone of seven years of activity seven centuries after Dante's death not only flatters us, but it also pushes us to venture a parallel between his time and ours, examining particularly the legendary alignments of Guelphs and Ghibellines. However, without going into the merits of the instances and contents of the two historical alignments, we would like to charge these two opposing categories with new meanings.
Our idea is that Power acts by the same mechanisms since man has memory: that is, by creating unverifiable watchwords that turn over time into dogmas and by not admitting any critical discussion, as well as by tolerating only those ideological forms (even apparently opposed to it) that he can control. The partisans of the various sides that inevitably are formed within the Power may harbour illusions about having room for decision and action: but their only function is to maintain a balance that does not alter the status quo of Power as established in that specific historical period. This also happens today in the very same way. Power needs men of faith, Doubt is categorically excluded.
That being said, it is our opinion that the modern Guelph is like a heap of every conformism that we have witnessed all along last century: he is the zealous fascist or communist where and when fascism or communism rule with zeal; he is the moderate potpoliticpourri of the post-war period with steady job and wife; he is still something similar, only in Tesla version 4.0 with precarious job and partner… he comments and expresses itself against global injustices and inequalities from a chic PC, whose components are paid peanuts to exotic populations kept in misery for this very reason… in short, he is the average man par excellence. The product of the media of Power. Today he can believe (because he’s a man of faith, albeit an atheist) something and tomorrow the exact opposite, just because he read it in the newspaper (better if issued in the English-speaking world) or on the social profile of a limelight-minute celebrity. In his name every kind of crime was, is, and will be accomplished. And he will know nothing of it, as always.
The modern Ghibelline is the other average man par excellence: a man of faith himself, only being informed and believing in which seems to be opposed to Power. It is its useful counterpoint. Every morning he wakes up and he’s surrounded by spies and papal hitmen who poison his food and spit in his water… every morning he attends freebaconry meetings in dark rooms kindly granted by Zuckerberg or the Telegram guys… every morning browses forbidden papers or unofficial journals that remind him how he and those like him are right… every morning he wakes up and thinks he must outrun the Pope. Now he goes on playing the heretic… hoping that tomorrow they will become the pontiff, or rather the patriarch of Moscow.
And us? Λάθε βιώσας… but is not enough.
A certain awareness about mechanisms of power makes it possible not to panic in vain. In our specific case: we don’t see all this difference between city walls and a coloured sheet of paper. Protect and control, control to protect, protect to control… no new thing under the sun. Power is not the evil. Its purpose is to preserve itself, possibly to increase its strength. Doubt makes us take into account the chance that, striving to pursue this goal, Power could consider as being useful also the conservation and increase of our forces. To be more specific: the current Power, being of consumerist type, needs consumers… better if alive, even if not necessarily healthy (this must be said).
This is why in these seven years we have not been able to turn neither into committed Guelphs nor Ghibellines. Above all, we cannot be committed. At least not uncritically.
